About the role

Job Description:
Providing for loved ones, planning rewarding retirements, saving enough for whatever lies ahead – our policyholders count on us to be there when it matters most. It’s a big ask, but it’s one that we have the power to deliver when we work together. We collaborate and innovate – pushing one another to transform not just Pacific Life, but the entire industry for the better. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. Pacific Life is more than a job, it’s a career with purpose. It’s a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future – including your own.
We’re actively seeking a talented Life Insurance Underwriting Consultant to join our Consumer Markets Division. This role supports 100% remote work.
As an Underwriting Consultant, you will play an important role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by evaluating life insurance applicants and assessing mortality risk through a modern, data-driven underwriting approach. Using health histories, prescription data, laboratory results, electronic health records, third-party data sources, predictive risk tools, and underwriting analytics, you will evaluate applicants and determine appropriate underwriting outcomes.
In this role, you will focus on accelerated underwriting and direct distribution channels, utilizing technology, automation, and digital underwriting tools to make timely, accurate, and customer-focused risk decisions. You will assess medical, lifestyle, and behavioral risk factors to evaluate mortality risk and determine whether coverage should be issued as applied for, modified, or declined.
You will work in a fast-paced environment where efficiency, sound judgment, and attention to detail are critical. By balancing prudent risk selection with a seamless customer experience, you will help deliver competitive decisions that support growth in direct-to-consumer and digitally enabled distribution channels.
Our underwriters play a vital role in protecting the company's mortality experience while helping more customers access life insurance coverage quickly and conveniently. Through thoughtful risk assessment, effective use of underwriting technology, and consistent decision-making, you will contribute directly to business results and customer satisfaction.
Now is an exciting time to join our Underwriting team. Pacific Life is transforming the underwriting experience through advanced analytics, predictive modeling, digital health data, and accelerated underwriting capabilities. Our underwriters are empowered to build technical expertise, develop strong risk assessment skills, and grow their careers through ongoing training and development opportunities. Join a team dedicated to innovation, continuous learning, and delivering an exceptional customer experience in the evolving life insurance marketplace.
How you’ll help move us forward:
• Evaluate life insurance applications using accelerated underwriting tools, digital health data, and predictive risk models.
• Analyze medical, prescription, laboratory, and third-party data sources to assess mortality risk.
• Apply underwriting guidelines and sound judgment to determine appropriate risk classifications.
• Support direct-to-consumer and direct marketing distribution channels by delivering timely and accurate underwriting decisions.
• Utilize underwriting systems, automation tools, and analytics platforms to efficiently manage casework.
• Collaborate with underwriting, operations, data science, and business partners to improve customer outcomes and process efficiency.
• Maintain productivity, quality, and service standards while delivering a positive customer experience.
The experience you will bring:
• 2-5 years of Life Insurance Underwriting experience.
• Foundational understanding of mortality assessment, risk classification, and underwriting principles.
• Experience utilizing data-driven underwriting tools and electronic risk assessment resources.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to evaluate multiple sources of information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, technology-enabled underwriting environment.
What will make you stand out:
• Bachelor's Degree
